TÜV SÜD’s ‘Functional Safety in Railway’ programme was delivered by Asian Rail Academy on 4th – 7th June 2018. This is the 1st execution of TÜV SÜD’s ‘Functional Safety in Railway’ training programme here in Malaysia. Dr. Paolo Gianotti, from TÜV SÜD who is a Lead Assessor and expert in Functional Safety with industry experience of 20 years delivered the training here in Malaysia. Total of 25 pax of participants from key rail industry players attended this programme, including employees from Rapid Rail, Sapura, CMC Engineering, ERL Maintenance Support, Hartasuma, Siemens Malaysia, KTMB, Recogine Technology, EV-Dynamic, Hisniaga, Colas Rail Asia etc.
The programme covers standards of EN50126 (RAMS), EN51028 (Software), EN50129 (System Safety) and EN50159 (Communication) and intended to provide an overview of the requirements for a safety demonstration. For this purpose, the entire life cycle of a railway system, starting with the system definition and identification of the hazards, determining the safety requirements and evidences of control of hazards is described.
